Akim Funk Buddha - Visionary creator and performer

Akim is a multi-faceted performance artist with talents ranging from high-energy Classic Hip Hop rhymes, beat-boxing and Mongolian throat-singing, to body-balancing, martial arts, tap dance and circus arts. Akim creates borderless performance art fusing sounds and movements.  He is known for his holistic Approach to Hip Hop, drawing from a full spectrum of cultural traditions and artistic disciplines. 

Akim is a recipient of a 2014 National Endowment for the Arts U.S. / Japan Creative Artist Exchange Fellowship.  Akim has performed his show at venues such as Summer StageThe Blue Note, The Kennedy Center(Washington DC), The Whitney Museum (VH1 Hip Hop Honors,) BAM Café, Lincoln Center Outdoors,Joe's Pub, Winter Garden, Bronx Museum, La MaMa Theater & the Rubin Museum.  He won the award for best choreography in New York's Fringe Festival for the musical "Average Asian American.” Akim has made appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman and Sesame Street, and can be seen as an M.C. in the award winning Documentary  “FreeStyle, the art of rhyme”.  Akim has collaborated with Tony award winning Director Bill T and Jones. He toured the world with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dancecompany, performing as throat singer/vocalist, multi-percussionist, and dancer, and performed at Carnegie Hall with Bobby McFerrin. 

Adam Matta - World-class beatboxer

Adam Matta is a beatboxer and vocal performance artist who has worked with Bobby McFerrin at Carnegie Hall, and in Moscow, RU.  Toured and recorded with Grammy-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops.  Their 2012 album, Leaving Eden, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Folk Album.  Their work appears on Chimes of Freedom: Bob Dylan Tribute, and Hunger Games soundtrack.  Has created solo shows with guest musicians at BAMCafe, Joe's Pub, the New Museum for Contemporary Art, Galapagos, PS 122 and Here Arts Center.  Headlined the 2009 International Human Beatbox Convention in London at the Southbank Centre.  Music appears in The L Word, Season II, and in documentary, Planet B-Boy.  Appeared on Damon Wayan's The Underground, PBS' The Electric Company, CUNY-TV's Art or Something Like It, WOR's The Joey Reynolds Show, NPR's Morning Edition, Weekend Edition, and All Things Considered, and in Off-Broadway production, "In Transit," and Cornell's "Beatbox Bard."  Artist in Residence at Cornell University, League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots, Here Arts Center and Digital Performance Institute.
